It’s almost spring. The snow has turned to rain in Chicago and flowers will soon be on their way.

Which means it’s the perfect time to talk about cupcakes, one of my favorite guilty pleasures, especially in spring and summer months. The main reason for this is a tradition that began two years ago. A friend of mine found a delicious bakery called Swirlz. It is a thirty minute walk from her apartment. This  makes us feel guilt-free about ravenously devouring our cupcakes when we reached the small holy grail of cupcakes, for wheatless wanderers and vegans in the city. So it is now surprise that when my friend and I hangout during the warmer months we stroll through the humid streets of Chicago in hopes of a cupcake. We always get one each and split them. This means I’ve tried most of the flavors they offer. Not to mention the wide variety of cupcakes that appear before us each time we enter the shop.

Every flavor one could want!

Gluten Free: Chocolate mint, Chocolate Chip, Bittersweet Chocolate, Vanilla Twixie, Twixie, Banana Nutella, Cookie Dough,Chocolate Dipped Strawberry, Chocolate Coconut Truffle, Red Velvet, Chocolate Mocha, Chocolate dipped Peanut Butter Banana, Surprise,

Vegan and Gluten Free: Chocolate Peanut Butter, Vanilla on Chocolate, Double Chocolate, Raspberry Red Velvet, Carrot

On there website they offer a  calendar to show you when you might find each cupcake. However, every time I’ve been there they have had 4-5 different kinds of gluten free cupcakes.

These are hands down the best cupcakes  in the city.

Oh wait, I forgot to mention they do cakes. Birthday cakes and wedding cakes, if you are interested in that sort of thing. Turns out glutenista and wheat-less wanderers alike can enjoy their big day without  worrying about having a delicious cake! For my last birthday I order a cake from them and was not disappointed. In fact, it was amazing and a must for anyone with a special occasion coming up.

Anyways let’s brake down what makes these cupcakes and cakes stand out:

The Cake: Moist, spongy, full of flavor and will leave you wanting more.

The Frosting: The perfect amount of sweetness. When you bite in your teeth wont tingle from over use of confectioners sugar.

The Staff: Very knowledge, friendly and accommodating.

And if you live in the burbs or can’t make it to Lincoln Park, then you can find an assortment of their cupcakes at Whole Foods. Because they know everyone needs a quick fix some times.
